Home School: The Compassionate Circle

In my travels, although I may be meeting some people for the first time, I try to accept everyone as my friend. Because in truth, we already know one another, profoundly, as human beings who share the same basic goals.  We all seek happiness and do not want suffering.  Kindness and Love, a real since of brotherhood and sisterhood, make community possible and thus are crucial in society.  Each of us has a valid since of self, of I.  We also share fundamental goals wanting happiness and no suffering.  Animals also have the same fundamental goals of wanting happiness and no suffering.  On every level, as individuals and as members of a family, a community, a nation, and a planet, we are connected.  The only way we can achieve real peace is through mutual trust, respect, love and kindness.  On the deepest since, we are all really sisters and brothers, so we must share each others suffering.  Mutual respect, trust and concern for one-anothers welfare are our best hope for lasting world peace.  We are all responsible for creating a better future.   - Dalai Lama

Home School Lesson #1: THE EARTH IS NOT AN ASHTRAY
We LOVE going to the beach.  Salty sandy skin, swimming, snorkeling, surfing, sunning, it’s all Heaven to us.  Sadly, we noticed many of the beautiful beaches in St. Maarten are full of trash.  Cigarette buds, empty bottles, plastic cups, chip bags, drink straws, it’s awful.  The Earth is our home.  She gives us life and should be respected and cherished.  Home School Lesson #1 is a continuing lesson, THE EARTH IS NOT AN ASHTRAY!  We now bring an empty bag with us to the beach to collect trash each time we go.  Unfortunately, in some areas in the Caribbean, this could be a full time job, so on an every beach day basis we can only collect the trash immediately surrounding us.  In the near future, I plan to have beach clean-up days where we spend how ever long it takes to clean up a particular beach and maybe even recruit a few tot friends to help.
