Caribbean Kids

Buccaneer Beach Bar Bon Fire & Kids Barefoot Beach Movie Night!
If you are a Yachtie Mommy in St. Maarten on a Friday night, it's a no brainier.

Le Galion Beach, also called Coconut Grove, Baie de l´Embouchure, and nicknamed "Baby Beach".  This beach is located next bay Southeast of buzzling Orient Bay. This laid back beach is surrounded by a coral reef that serves as a protection, providing calm and shallow waters to Le Galion.  The restaurant food and drinks are great and not very pricy (unlike over priced Orient Beach).  No need to bring your own food and drinks unless you want to save money.

Pinel Island. Only 2nd best because it's a bit harder to get to. You have to take a boat to get here (or Ferry) and it is sooo worth the trip.  Lunch here is absolutely wonderful as well!

Mullet Bay’s beautiful turquoise clean calm water with a fairly gradual slope from the white sand beach is perfect for kids.  Beach chairs with umbrella are only $5 each for the day!  Get there early, or you won’t get a front row seat.  And be sure to bring your own lunch and drinks in a cooler… the Mullet Bay Beach “Restaurant/Bar” is very island slow and the food is terrible.

The Butterfly World features hundreds of rare and exotic butterflies in a tranquil atmosphere: beautifully landscaped, in a quiet garden with waterfall, ponds, Japanese fish and mystical music. The best time to go is early in the morning to watch the butterflies emerging from their cocoons and taking their first flight. Located in Le Galion.  Open year round 9am to 4:30pm.

Hiking
The Loterie Farm´s eco-hike is a must for sports enthusiast or nature lovers! This unique farm once cultivated sugar cane, now, it is the ecological showcase of a Californian philanthropist. You can hike for an hour through the "hidden forest" with splendid views towards the Caribbean Sea, Marigot, and the island of Anguilla. Alternatively "fly the trees" on a tree top tour at the Fly Zone along ropes from tree to tree. The higher and more challenging tour is for adults and youngsters > 4 ft. tall. The lower and easier tour is for kids. They also have an excellent restaurant and a bar/lounge on site. Reservations for Fly Zone recommended on busy days (cruise ship days!). Closed on Mondays! Tri-Sport is another eco tourism specialist. The Heritage Foundation 542-4917, and the St Maarten Museum also organize hikes.

Philipsburg Friday Family Night
I actually have never gone to the Friday night family gig in crazy Philipsburg, but a fellow Yachtie Mommy told me about this.  I’ll try to check it out one day and update this post to accommodate my findings.
